Smart & Crofton (1875) collected the forms Mindj, minsh from English Gypsies which they define as Pudendum muliebre the second element ‘muliebre’ is from Latin muliebris, meaning belonging to a woman.

This word is also used by non-Travellers both as above and also as a dergatory term for women in general.
