kly, cloy verb to steal 19-20. etymology: origin obscure; perhaps connected to or a development from German klauen ‘to steal’; collected by EMcC/PS; form kly attested by BS in TDITA note:

Grose and Egan (1823) attest the form cloy as ‘Cant’.

A form cly attested by Canadian Paul Pope (2013) with the same meaning. He also attests a form klyin ‘stealing’ which is not attested by Scottish Travellers or Gypsies.
